The latest VFTV podcast features four voices - see if you can identify the speakers and the connection they share. I also provide more information about the VFTV Challenge. Enjoy!
Starting here , BusinessWeek Online lists their “top picks for the new genre of Net radio” and invites readers to vote for their favourite from among a selection of podcasts, including Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code, Insomnia Radio, the BBC’s In Our Time and Doug Kays’ IT Conversations. Amazingly Voices from the Vault is one of the 8 listed podcasts you can vote for!
I have zero expectation I’d get many votes compared to the other excellent podcasts they have selected but if you feel so inclined head over to the voting page and vote for Voices from the Vault!
This episode features the voices of four American cartoonists (I tried to find audio clips of British or other English-speaking cartoonists, but had no luck). I’ve also included a bonus voice from the vault but I’ll only be providing the answer to his identity next time!
As mentioned in the podcast I’ll soon be announcing the Voices from the Vault Challenge. The Challenge will be like an Extreme Sports version of Voices from the Vault and I hope it will really stretch your memory and knowledge of the people and events of the last century. At the end of the Challenge I’ll have a really cool prize for the overall winner who has most accurately guessed the names of ten specially selected speakers. I’ll be announcing the Challege as soon as I’ve made some changes to the website to allow registration and submission of answers - look for it in the next week or two depending on my other commitments between now and then.
As usual comments and suggestions are welcome, either here or by e-mail at the address at the top of the page.
Ok, I listened again to the episode I did earlier and my voice isn’t that bad. So to keep the party going, here is Voices from the Vault #6 - this time you have to guess the speakers and the theme that links them. Good luck!
As usual comments and suggestions are welcome, either here or by e-mail at the address at the top of the page. I’d particulaly like to know if the voices I’m selecting are too easy, too hard or a good balance.
Adam Curry featured Voices from the Vault on his Daily Source Code podcast today, driving feed subscriptions up by 500% in the blink of an eye - thanks Adam! I have another podcast almost ready but I’m recovering from a cold and I’m a little croaky, so I’ll wait until tomorrow to finish it. In the meantime, head over to Podcast Alley and vote for Voices from the Vault - it’s currently the 629th most popular podcast…let’s try for the top 550!
Really churning them out now! This VFTV podcast features four very different musicians who made their names in the 1960s and 70s. Good luck guessing who they are!
As usual comments and suggestions are welcome, either here or by e-mail at the address at the top of the page.
A quick little promo for the podcast - feel free to download the file (it’s pretty small) and please, pass it on!
This Voices from the Vault podcast features the voices of three people who have literally reached the top in their chosen careers. Think about high places as you listen!
I’ve changed the format slightly this time and you’ll only get one chance to listen to each voice. As usual comments and suggestions are welcome, either here or by e-mail at the address at the top of the page.
This Voices from the Vault podcast features the voices of four people who have been at the forefront of the stuggle for human rights, freedom and democracy. Two of the speakers are from Asia, one is from Europe and one from Africa. The clips are longer than usual so you’ll have more time to think about who each speaker is as you listen. Good luck!
As usual comments and suggestions are welcome. I’m particulaly looking for help cleaning up old recordings - I’m a complete beginner when it comes to audio production and I’m overwhelmed by all the knobs and switches on my mixer, and all the settings in my software. If you can help me with this please leave a comment on the website or send me an e-mail at the address at the top of the page.
This Voices from the Vault podcast features the voices of three famous screen actors; as usual your job is to identify them before I provide the answers. Good luck!
I’ve been checking the web site statistics and it looks like at least 60 people have subscribed to the Voices from the Vault feed. Thanks for your support! Some of you have also contacted me with suggestions of how I can improve the podcast; I’m looking to incorporate some of those suggestions into coming episodes. One thing I didn’t need anyone to tell me about was the poor recording quality of my voice - I’m buying a new microphone on the weekend so hopefully it will improve.
I’m going to try to do two Voices from the Vault podcasts each week from now on. Subscribe to the feed to get the next espisode as soon as it goes up on the server.
Welcome to the first Voices from the Vault podcast. If you’ve been listening to Jan Polet’s Hit Test podcast you’ll be familiar with the format I’m using for this podcast. I’ll be playing you archival audio clips of famous people who have made their mark in sport, science, politics, business, the arts, theatre, film and music and your challenge is to guess the names of the speakers!
This first Voices from the Vault podcast features a corrupt American politician and two very different musicians but future podcasts will be be organised around particular themes. For example Voices from the Vault #2 will feature the voices of famous movie actors. I hope that over the coming months I’ll be able to produce Voices from the Vault podcasts that cover your particular interests.
Enjoy and if you feel so inclined leave me a comment here on the web site, or by e-mail at the address at the top of the page.
